BRITVETS 8 - 4 DINTON CASUALS Enjoy every minute you can in a football match because you never know when it might be your last. I´ve been thinking that for close on 50 years so it was so nice to play another 90 this morning...thanks for putting up with me! Dinton Casuals were in town hoping to play the Britvets but numbers are short on the vet front at the moment so a few younger guys helped out. Mind you the average age down Britanico´s right hand side and center defence was in excess of 50. Eleven o´clock in the morning and bright sunshine is something perhaps the Casuals could have done without and must have been fearing the worst when they conceded four in the opening half an hour. Bobby Wang the first Chinese signing for the Britanicos was involved in most moves and he and Diego of Zaragoza attacked at will. When Ed Chandler came on after 20 minutes in center midfield that increased Britanicos´attacking options even more. Special word too about Dave Pugh for volunteering to play for Dinton when they found themselves down to 10 men. They did manage to get one goal back in the first half before Britanicos got another to make the half time score 5-1 in favour of the home side. Britanicos probably played better in the second half and had even more of the ball as the visiting team from Kingston, London tired but strangely only scored three more, while the Dinton team also scored three to at least give them some satisfaction from their time in Madrid. Final score 8-4. I´m not quite sure who scored but over a drink Bobby Wang said he scored a hattrick and I know Ed scored another ´cos I gave him the pass. Here´s to another 90 minutes, anywhere, anytime!!!!! p.s. Rami, only available first half next week !!!!!

This much awaited in club friendly was narrowly won2 by the league
side when the vets just couldn´t find an equaliser in the closing
minutes. In the first half it looked as if the vets would do well
to keep their younger opponents at bay.
The pre match talk had been all about the midfield confrontation
between Rami Ali and Rob Turner. Rami was confident that he could
hold his own despite his advancing years but he hadn´t bargained
on Turner pulling in Paul Reidy to assist in the engine room. The
versatile Reidy certainly made a difference and was soon coming
forward at every opportunity. Another interesting duel was that
of Rami´s son Omar in center of defence and the experienced Britanicos
pichichi Dave Hughes.
However it was a shame that after weathering the initial storm the
vets went one behind. A slightly overhit pass across the vets defence
allowed Moha in to score.
Half time Vets 0 Seconds 1
The second half started in a similar way to the first with the Seconds
continuing to take the game to the Vets and it was no surprise when
Prince made it 2-0. But the experience and quality of the vets wouldn´t
go away. Their ability not to panic and play their way out of defence
was obvious, they just needed to get some players forward if they
wanted to get back in the game. Unfortunately they then went three
down when a corner by Paul Reidy sneaked in directly at the near
post.
Signal revival from the Vets. One or two of them became frustrated
with their one man forward line Dave Hughes but on the other hand
one or two realized that Dave might be one of their best ways to
get back into the match. Partnered up front with Diego, both scored
a goal in the last quarter of an hour to set up a very tense and
competitive finish. This reporter would be banned from all future
vet games
if he didn´t mention that Diego´s goal came from a wonderfully measured
pass from Rami Ali and his subsequent jinking run towards the end
